Welcome to Taster Tuesdays, where our very own Makers coaches will give you a taste of what it’s like to learn to code at Makers. Every two weeks, we’ll release a new workshop that focuses on one of the key technologies our students learn. These workshops are free to attend. If you’re a beginner then we recommended attending each one to build your coding skills.
Date: 21/03/23
Time: 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm
Cost: FREE
Is coding something that interests you? Maybe you’ve considered doing the Makers bootcamp or have already applied. Whatever stage you’re at in your tech journey, these workshops are designed for you to practice fundamental coding skills and build your confidence to code.
As our approach is tailored to people with no previous experience in coding. Our expert and super-friendly coaches will walk you through basic programming and computing concepts you’ll build on as you learn to code.
This is an online event. After you register for the event you’ll receive an email with a link to join the Zoom meeting. During the session, the only thing you’ll need to write and run the program is a web browser such as Chrome or Firefox.
Make sure you have zoom downloaded prior to the event and at 12:30

If you’re ready to join a bootcamp but want to know if Makers is the right choice, join us for this 90 minute taster session, in collaboration with Tom Teaches Tech. A Makers grad turned developer, Tom will introduced to the teaching methodologies used at Makers that will set you up for success in the rest of your tech career.
Learning Techniques – Everyone learns in their specific way but is it always the most effective? In this section we’ll introduce a range of different learning techniques to give you a broader range of methods to use when you’re struggling.
Problem Decomposition – Knowing how to break down a coding problem is the first step towards solving it but when you’re faced with a wall of error messages it can be difficult to know where to begin. In this section guide you through the step by step process of problem decomposition and set you tasks to practice.
How to structure your day mentally and physically – This part of the session we’ll lay out how to structure your day effectively to optimise your learning. This is a key skill for if you’re about to join the bootcamp.
Q&A – Finally, it’s over to you. Please feel free to ask us any questions about the content of todays session, life as a Makers student, finding a job or anything else relevant to support your journey into tech.
Learners will also be provided with a host of resources to support the session and to help you continue your learning
